Kathleen Nelson, ARNP
“Healthcare is a partnership
with my patients here at Adair County Health System.”
My husband Keith is a
busy farmer. My daughter Kathryn is a Creighton Physical Therapy
doctoral student, Susan is a night RN with ACMH, and Stephanie at
home. We also have an Australian Shephard puppy named Roscoe.
I graduated from C-M
High, received my diploma in nursing from Immanual Hospital, BSN
from Grand View College, Master’s in Nursing from Clarkson College,
and acquired Paramedic certification from the School of Allied
Health Science (Mercy) in Des Moines.
I love flowers and am obsessive about my lawn.
I play piano and the organ at my church and am learning to quilt.
I came to ACMH as a staff RN from
1985-91 where I came to appreciate how well the staff works
together. I have a passion for obstetrics and have spent much of my
career helping to deliver over 5000 babies. Now, I enjoy caring for
the whole family.
I like to emphasize the importance
of lifestyle changes to prevent illness and also improve the quality
of life of those with chronic illness. We all have choices in
life. The choice to eat healthy and exercise can not only prevent
illness but improve health and leave us with more energy to do
things we enjoy.
I am a partner in the healthcare of
all of my patients. Your primary care provider fills an important
role, but so do you! Your job is to be open and honest with your
providers. It is our job to listen, offer options, and gain your
cooperation to fulfill the goals of your healthcare.
